I call them poured sockets- anyway here is a complete lesson in fitting end terminals to your rigging wire. This is a 12mm or 1/2 inch one that I am doing for my foremast. I have a bronze caster where I keep the patterns. These are heavey and will probably cost me $nz30 ea. I have had the 10mm ones for some time-in stack as it were. These are 100% foolproof if dne properly. They work for galvanosed wire as well, which I prefer, but I was given a whole lot if 1 by 19 ss. What can I say!

ELECTRICAL BOARD NO 2

This is the little distribution board , with the day tank behind. Using this 6 switch board for small lites,rear view camera.It also has a meter that measures amps,volts,amphours remaining etc. from the house batteries - 440 amp/hrs

DASHBOARD

This is the dashboard with motor instruments in, including start button and bilge pump selection. Trying to label as we go.Left is the common negative.Centre is motor positive and right is house positive.

WIRING PROGRESS

Progress report on wiring it goes on and on! Yesterday for egsample the following was wired and used: Bilge pump,diesel day tank (and 20 l pumped up), water header tank 60 l (and pumped up). they are all manned from the no 2 board. Keeping this board for navigation items.

BOLGER BOAT

 

Found this design the other day and its worth a close look.The thing that I find missing is the lack of "outside' living.In fact I see it as a noticible failure in northern hemisphere's designs.Do not think you can get much outside in 20 ft!

SOCKETS

Now have all the poured sockets for the standing rigging. I have had the 10mm ones on the left for some time and will use on the mizzen. the new 12mm ones on the right for the main mast and forestay. I do not like swaged ends but "norseman' or similar a good second best, and even Talurits are better. The good things about poured sockets apart from their safety are
1/ once made for the boat last the lifetime of the boat
2/can be put on by the owner-and reused by the owner-even at sea!
3/ much cheaper than swages

SWITCHBOARD-2

Work contiues on the wiring. I am installing my own LES's to indicate a switch is on, and they all need to be connected to the neg, so made a copper strip to silder the tails of the resistors to.Also had to mount connector strips to all the MCBs as the compresion screw is in the front with no access- this way I can connect from the rear---got it?! 

SIDE LIGHTS

 

Mounted and wired the port and starboard running lights, Actally had a bit of trouble and ended up pulling them both apart and restoring them.The little spring plungers where a bit stiff, loosend them up with INOX. Still using original vertical incandescent  (expensive) bulbs but will change to LED's when they need replacing....

RIGGING

Got some secondhand rigging from a mate. Wormed parcelled and served 10mm galv, enough for the 4 shrouds for the mizzen, and a long length of ss 12mm 1by19. so now have 7 of the 9 needed. On the lookout for 11 or 12 m of 12mm ss

MAIN ELECTRICAL PANEL

Keep your eyes on this panel as I work thru building all the curcuits. Could get quite busy!

 

Header Tank

The original 60 liter water tank has been re-mounted on the wheelhouse top as a header tank to give pressure below. It also alows us to monitor consumption...
 

MIZZEN CHAINPLATES

All 4 now bolted on for the mizzen. This the forward starboard one and was one of the reasons we put a post here. The other is to provide a corner for any shower screen that may be necessary. The door behind which is to the loo opens forward to line up with the post to form a sceen there. Whether we put a rolldown? sceen down from the roof to the gunwhale-we will see!

LED'S

Busy soldering up 20 led's and their resistors as indicator lites for one panel. This is the one that has all the operational and navigational switches for Mason Bay. The house panel, which does lighting and non operational stuff, I managed to get cheap at the local auction about a year ago, and it has them built in. I am using the original circuit breakers and felt indicator lights would let me know whats on.....

ELECTRICS-MORE ELECTRICS

Cableing is a slow business. Trying to get the engine started and running from the wheelhouse. But it does take time. Getting the right sized cables, then the correct sized lugs crimped on, then running and supporting the cables.......
